Steve Webb 0:54 Now the sons of the prophets said to Elijah, Behold now the place before you where you're living is too limited for us. Please let us go to the Jordan and each of us take from there a beam and let us make a place there for ourselves where we may live. So we said, Go. Then one said, please be willing to go with your servants. And he answered, I shall go. So he went with him. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one of them was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water. And he cried out and said, Alas, my master for it was borrowed. Then the man of God said, Where did it fall. And when he showed him the place, he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float. He said, Take it up for yourself. So he put out his hand and took it. Now the king of Aram was warring against Israel. And he counseled with his servants saying, in such in such a place shall be my camp. The man of God sent word to the king of Israel saying, beware that you do not pass this place for the air a man's are coming down there, the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him so that he guarded himself there more than once or twice. Now the heart of the king of Aram was enraged over this thing. And he called his servants and said to them, will you tell me which of us is for the king of Israel? One of his servants said, No, my lord, oh, king, but Elijah, the prophet who is in Israel tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom. So he said, Go and see where he is that I may send and take him. And it was told him saying, Behold, he is in Doulton. He sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. Now, when the attended of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, Alas, my Master, what shall we do? So he answered, do not fear for those who are with us, or more than those who are with them. Then Elijah prayed and said, Oh, Lord, I pray open his eyes that he may see. And the Lord opened the servant sighs and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Malaysia. When they came down to him, Elijah prayed to the Lord and said, Strike this people with blindness, I pray. So he struck them with blindness, according to the Word of Elijah. Then Elijah said to them, this is not the way nor is this the city, follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek. And he brought them to some area. When they had come into some area, Elijah said, Oh, Lord, open the eyes of these men that they may see. So the Lord opened their eyes and they saw and behold, they were in the midst of Sumeria. Then the king of Israel when he saw them said to Elijah, my father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them? He answered, would you kill those you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow, set bread and water before them that they may eat and drink and go to their master? So he prepared a great feast for them. And when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master, and the marauding bands of Arameans did not come again into the land of Israel. Steve Webb 4:06 Now it came about after this that Ben Hey, Dad, king of Aram gathered all his army and went up and besieged some area. There was a great famine in Sumeria. And behold, they besieged it until a donkey's head was sold for 80 shekels of silver, and a fourth of a cab of doves dung for five shekels of silver. As the King of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to Him, saying, Help My lord, oh, King. He said, If the Lord does not help you from where shall I help you from the threshing floor or from the wine press? And the king said to her, What is the matter with you? And she answered, this woman said to me, give your son that we may eat him today and we will eat my son tomorrow. So we boiled my son and ate him. And I said to her on the next day, give your son that we may eat him, but she has hidden her son. When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. Now he was passing by on the wall. Steve Webb 5:00 The people looked and behold, he had sackcloth beneath on his body. Then he said, May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elijah, the son of che fat remains on him today. Now Elijah was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And the king said, A man from his presence. But before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold the door shut against him, is not the sound of his masters feet behind him. While he was still talking with him, Behold, the messenger came down to him and he said, Behold, this evil is from the Lord, why should I wait for the Lord any longer? Steve Webb 5:43 Second Kings chapter seven. Steve Webb 5:46 Then Elijah said, listen to the word of the Lord, Thus says the Lord, tomorrow about this time, a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shackle, and two measures of barley for a shackle, in the gate of Sumeria, the Royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning, answered the man of God and said, Behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? Then he said, Behold, you will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat of it. Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate, and they said to one another, why do we sit here until we die, if we say we will enter the city, than the famine is in the city, and we will die there. And if we said, Here, we will die also. Now therefore Come, and let us go over to the camp of the era man's, if they Spare us, we will live and if they kill us, we will bet die, they arose at twilight to go to the camp of they are a man's, when they came to the outskirts of the camp of the man's, behold, there was no one there, for the Lord had caused the army of the era man's to hear a sound of chariots and the sound of horses, even the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us, the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians to come upon us. Therefore, they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents and their horses and their donkeys, even the camp just as it was, and fled for their life. When these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they entered one tent and ate and drank, and carried from their silver and gold and clothes, and went and hid them. And they returned in entered another tent, and carried from there also, and went and hid them. Steve Webb 7:25 Then they said to one another, we're not doing right. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent. If we wait until morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore, Come, let us go and tell the king's household. So they came and call to the gatekeepers of the city. And they told him saying, we came to the camp of the Romans, and behold, there was no one there nor the voice of a man, only the horses tied in the donkeys tide, and the tents just as they were. The gatekeepers called and told it within the king's household. Then the king arose in the night and said to his servants, I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry, therefore they have gone from the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, when they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city. One of his servants said, please let some men take five of the horses which remain, which are left in the city, behold, they will be in any case, like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it, behold, they will be in any case, like all the multitude of Israel who have already perished. So let us send in See, they took their for two chariots, with horses in the king said after the army of the Romans saying, Go and see. They went after them to the Jordan, and behold, all the way was full of clothes and equipment, which the Romans had thrown away in their haste. Then the messengers returned and told the king. Steve Webb 8:50 So the people went out and plundered the camp of the era man's, then a measure of fine flower was sold for a shackle, and two measures of barley for a shackle, according to the Word of the Lord. Now, the king appointed the royal officer on whose handy lien to have charge of the gate, but the people traveled on him at the gate, and he died just as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him. It happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king saying, to measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel will be sold tomorrow, about this time at the gate of Sumeria. Then the royal officer answered the man of God and said, Now behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be and he said, Behold, you will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat of it. And so what happened to him for the people trampled on him at the gate, and he died. Steve Webb 9:43 Second Kings chapter eight. Steve Webb 9:45 Elijah had told the woman whose son he had brought back to life, take your family and move to some other place for the Lord is called for a feminine Israel that will last for seven years. So the woman did is the man of God instructed, she took her family Steve Webb 10:00 and settled in the land of the Philistines for seven years. After the famine ended, she returned from the land of the Philistines. And she went to see the King about getting back her house and land. As she came in, the king was talking with the hazai, the servant of the man of God. The king had just said, Tell me some stories about the great things Elijah has done. And get hazai was telling the king about the time Elijah had brought a boy back to life. At that very moment, the mother of the boy walked in to make her appeal to the king about her house and land. Look, my Lord, the King hazai exclaimed, here is the woman now, and this is their son, the very one Elijah brought back to life. Is this true? The king Astor, and she told him the story, so he directed one of his officials to see that everything she had lost was restored to her, including the value of any crops that had been harvested during her absence. Elijah went to Damascus, the capital of Aram, where King Ben Hey, Dad lay sick. When someone told the king that the man of God had come, the king said to ACL, take a gift to the man of God, tell him to ask the Lord, will I recover from this illness? So hazier loaded down 40 camels with the finest products of Damascus as a gift for Elijah. He went to him and said, Your servant Ben, Hey, Dad, the king of Aram has sent me to ask, Will I recover from this illness? And Elijah replied, Go and tell him, you will surely recover. But actually, the Lord has shown me that he will surely die. Elijah stared at hazy with a fixed gaze until his zeal became uneasy. Then the man of God started weeping. What's the matter, my lord, hazy, Alaska. Elijah replied, I know the terrible things you will do to the people of Israel. You will burn their fortified cities, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground and rip open their pregnant women. Hazel responded, how could a nobody like me ever accomplish such great things? Elijah Hansard the Lord has shown me that you are going to be the king of Aram. When hazier left elation went back, the king asked him, What did Alicia tell you? And Hazel replied, he told me that you will surely recover. But the next day haze he took a blanket, soaked it in water and held it over the king's face until he died. Then Hazel became the next king of Aram. Steve Webb 12:26 Jehoram, son of King Jehoshaphat of Judah began to rule over Judah in the fifth year of the reign of Joram, son of Ahab king of Israel. Jehoram was 32 years old when it became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. But Jehoram follow the example of the kings of Israel, and was his wicked is King Ahab, for he had married one of Ahab's daughters. So Jehoram did what was evil in the Lord site. But the Lord did not want to destroy Judah, for he had promised his servant David that his descendants would continue to rule shining like a lamp forever. Steve Webb 12:59 During Jehoram rain, the termites revolted against Judah and crowned their own king. So Jehoram went with all his chariots to attack the town of Zehr. The termites surrounded him at his cherried commanders, but he went out at night and attacked them under cover of darkness. But Jehoram his army deserted him and fled to their homes. So eat him has been independent from Judah to this day. The town of Libnah also revolted about the same time. The rest of the events in Jehoram drain and everything he did, are recorded in the Book of the history of the kings of Judah. When Jehoram died, he was buried with his ancestors in the city of David. Then his son, a messiah became the next king. Steve Webb 13:41 A his eye Asana Jehoram began to rule over Judah in the 12th year of the reign of Joram, son of Ahab, king of Israel. A Hosea was 22 years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother was Atha, Leia, a granddaughter of King aamra of Israel. He has I have followed the evil example of King Ahab's family. He did what was evil in the Lord site, just as Ahab's family had done, for he was related by marriage to the family of Ahab. At his I had joined Joram son of Ahab in his war against King Hayes, you'll have Aram at Ramoth Gilead. When the Arameans wounded King Joram. In the battle, he returned to jazz rail to recover from the wounds he had received at Rhema. Because Jordan was wounded King a Hosea, Judah went to jazz Rio to visit him. Steve Webb 14:31 Second Kings chapter nine. Steve Webb 14:34 Meanwhile, Elijah the prophet had some of the member of the group of prophets get ready to travel he told him and take this flask of olive oil with you go to Ramoth Gilead and find J Hughes, son of Jehoshaphat, son of NIMH shy, call him into a private room away from his friends and pour the oil over his head, say to him, this is what the Lord says, I anoint you to be the king over Israel. Then open the door and run for Steve Webb 19:18 His servants took him by chariot to Jerusalem, where they buried him with his ancestors in the city of David, a Uzziah had become king over Judah in the 11th year of the reign of Joram, son of Ahab. When Jezebel the queen mother heard that Jehu had come to Israel, she painted her eyelids and fixed her hair and sat at a window. When Jehu entered the gate of the Palace, she shouted at him. Have you come in peace, you murderer. You're just like Zimri who murdered his master? Jehu looked up and saw her at the window and shouted who was on my side, and two or three Unix looked out at him, throw her down. Jehu yelled. So they threw her out of the window and her blood spattered against the wall and on the horses. Steve Webb 20:01 And Jehu trampled her body under his horses hooves. Then Jehu went into the palace and ate and drank. Afterward he said, someone go and bury this curse at woman for she is the daughter of the king. But when they went out to barrier they found only her skull, her feet and her hands. When they returned and told Jehu he stated, This fulfills the message from the Lord which he spoke through his servant Elijah from Tishbe at the plot of land in Jezreel dogs will eat Jezabel's body or remains will be scattered like dung on the plot of land inJezreel so that no one will be able to recognize her. Steve Webb 20:39 Second Kings chapter 10. Steve Webb 20:41 Ahab had 70 sons living in the city of scenario, so g he wrote letters and sent them to scenario to the elders and officials of the city, and to the gardens of King Ahab sons. He said, The King sons are with you, and you have at your disposal chariots, horses, a fortified city and weapons. As soon as you receive this letter, select the best qualified of your masters sons to be your king and prepare to fight for Ahab's dynasty. But they were paralyzed with fear and said, we've seen the two kings couldn't stand against this man, what can we do? So the palace and city administrators together with the elders and the guardians of the king, sons sent this message to GQ. We are Your servants and we'll do anything you tell us. We will not make anyone King. Do whatever you think is best. GE he responded with a second letter. If you are on my side, and are going to obey me bring the heads of your master sons to me a jazz real by this time tomorrow. Now the 70 sons of the King were being cared for by the leaders of Sumeria, where they had been raised since childhood. When the letter arrived, the leaders killed all 70 of the king's sons. They placed their heads in baskets and presented them to G hue which Ezreal a messenger went to G hue and said, they have brought the heads of the King sons. So G who ordered pile them in two heaps at the entrance of the city gate, and leave them there until morning. In the morning, he went out and spoke to the crowds that had gathered around them, you are not to blame, he told him, I am the one who conspired against my master and killed him. But who killed all these, you can be sure that the message of the Lord that was spoken concerning Ahab's family will not fail. The Lord declared through his servant Elijah that this would happen. Then g who killed all who were left of Ahab's relatives living in Israel and all his important officials, his personal friends and his priests. So Ahab was left without a single survivor. Then g who set out for some area along the way, while he was at Beth he kid of the shepherds, he met some relatives of King a Hosea of Judah. Who were you he asked them and they replied, We are relatives of King a his idea. We're going to visit the sons of King Ahab and the sons of the Queen Mother. Take them alive, GE who shouted to his men, and they captured all 42 of them and kill them at the well of Beth he kid. None of them escaped. When GE who left there, he met Johanna dab, son of recap, who was coming to meet him, after they had greeted each other Gee, who said to him, Are you as loyal to me as I am to you? Yes, I am. jonadab replied, If you are G who said then give me your hand. So jonadab put out his hand, and G who helped him into the chariot, then g who said, Now come with me and see how devoted I am to the Lord. So Johanna DAB wrote along with him. When G who arrived in some area, he killed everyone who was left there from Ahab's family, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah, then g who called a meeting of all the people of the city and said to them, Ahab's worship of Baal was nothing compared to the way I will worship him. Therefore, summon all the prophets and worshipers of Baal and call together all his priests, see to it that every one of them comes for I am going to offer a great sacrifice to bail. Anyone who fails to come will be put to death. But gee, he was cunning plan was to destroy all the worshipers of Baal. Then g who ordered prepare a solemn assembly to worship Baal. So they did. He sent messengers throughout all Israel, summoning those who worshipped Baal. They all came, not a single one remained behind, and they filled the temple of Baal from one end to the other. And gee, who instructed the keeper of the wardrobe, be sure that every worshiper of Baal wears one of these robes, so robes were given to them. Then Ji who went out into the temple of Baal with jonadab, son of recap, Ji who said to the worshipers of Baal, make sure no one who worships the Lord is here. Only those who worship bail. So they were all inside the temple to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Gee who had station Steve Webb 25:00 data of his men outside the building and had warned them. If you let anyone escaped, you will pay for it with your own life. As soon as Gee who had finished sacrificing the burnt offering, he commanded his guards and officers go in and kill all of them don't let a single one escape. So they killed them all with their swords, and the guards and officers drag their bodies outside. Then g Hughes men went into the innermost fortress of the temple of Baal. They dragged out the sacred pillar used in the worship of Baal and burned it, they smashed the sacred pillar and wrecked the temple of Baal, converting it into a public toilet as it remains to this day. In this way, GE who destroyed every trace of Baal worship from Israel. He did not, however, destroy all the gold calves at Bethel and Dan, with which Jeroboam son of knee bat had caused Israel to sin. Nonetheless, the Lord said to Gu, you have done well in following my instructions to destroy the family of Ahab. Therefore, your descendants will be kings of Israel, down to the fourth generation. But G who did not obey the law of the Lord, the God of Israel with all his heart, he refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit. Steve Webb 26:16 At about that time, the Lord began to cut down the size of Israel's territory. King Hazel conquered several sections of the country east of the Jordan River, including all of Gilead, Gad, Rubin and Manasseh. He conquered the area from the town of a rower by the Arn and gorge to as far north as Gilead and Batian. The rest of the events of G Hughes reign, everything he did, and all his achievements are recorded in the Book of the history of the kings of Israel. When Gee who died he was buried in Sumeria. Then his son Jehovah has became the next king, in all je who reigned over Israel from Sumeria for 28 years. A couple of weeks ago, we read first Kings 19 through 22. And the title for that episode was that curse had woman part one. Of course, the curse had woman was Jezza. Belle, let me refresh your memory in regards to her. We first read about her in First Kings 1631 when she married King Ahab, according to today's Dictionary of the Bible, this was the first time a king of Israel had allied himself by marriage with a heathen princess. And as we've seen from our reading, that alliance was not good for anyone concerned. First Kings 30 says of Ahab, Ahab son of Omri, did what was evil in the Lord site even more than any of the kings before him. And then when he married Jezebel, things just got worse. He began worshiping bail. You probably remember that in First Kings 18, when Elijah have the showdown with the 450, so called prophets of Baal, that God sent down fire from heaven and burned up the sacrifice all the water around the altar in the 450 prophets. Well, after that, it was Jezza Bell who sent a message to Elijah which said, May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you, just as you killed them. Perhaps surprisingly, Elijah was scared by that note, so bad that he ran for his life. And then in First Kings chapter 21, King Ahab's neighbor, a fellow named neighbor off had a vineyard that Ahab wanted, but neighbor refused to sell it to him. And then what let me just read verses four through eight of chapter 21. So Ahab went home angry insulin because of NE boths answer, the king went to bed with his face to the wall and refuse to eat. What's the matter? His wife, Isabel asked him, what's made you so upset that you're not eating? I asked a boss to sell me his vineyard or trade it but he refused a half told her. A decibel said, Are you the king of Israel or not get up and eat something and don't worry about it, I'll get you nay boths vineyard. So she wrote letters I'm still reading, maybe putting a little bit more drama in at this time. So she wrote letters in Ahab's named sealing them with his seal and sent them to the elders and other leaders of the town where they both lift. In her letters, she commanded, call the citizens together for a time of fasting and give ne Botha place of honor, and then seat to scoundrels across from him, who will accuse him of cursing God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death. Well, you can see Jezebel was quite a piece of work right. Let's go back now to today's Dictionary of the Bible and see what else it says about her. Jezebel has stamped her name on history is the representative of all that is designing crafty militias revengeful and cruel. She is the first great instigator of persecution against the saints of God. Steve Webb 30:00 Guided by no principle restrained by no fear of either God or man passionate in her attachment to her heathen worship. She spared no pains to maintain idolatry around her in all its splendor. 450 prophets ministered under her care to bail besides 400 profits of the Ashura who ate at her table, the idolatry to was of the most debased and sensual kind. Her conduct was, in many respects, very disastrous to the kingdom, both of Israel and Judah, her name came to be used as the synonym for a wicked woman. Well, that's quite a legacy, isn't it? I think it's safe to say that if there were a Hall of Fame for evil people, she would have been one of its earliest inductees. What do you think? Comment at Lifespring media.com/s 12 E. 195.
