Steve Webb 0:00 This is why God keeps you waiting. Steve Webb 0:10 How are you today? This is the Lifespring one year Bible coming to you from Riverside, California in podcasting since 2004. I'm here Oh gee Godcaster Steve Webb. This is the daily podcast and we're reading through the entire Bible in a year. It Psalms. Wednesday, we're going to read chapters 60 through 62, and I'm calling the episode. What's the holdup? In addition, this is also the day where we'll share some phrases in prayer requests. But before we read, let's pray. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we love you and we thank you for our time together. We pray that as we read today, you would open our mind and touch our hearts. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, let's begin. Steve Webb 0:54 Introduction to Psalm 60. The title of this psalm is for the music leader to the tune of lily of the promise a special song by David for teaching. He wrote it during his wars with the Arameans of northern Syria when Joab came back and killed 12,000 Edomites in salt Valley. That is a long title, isn't it? This is another MC tam or golden psalm of instruction written by David sometime during the early part of his reign. Steve Webb 1:25 Psalms chapter 60. You got her angry with us? We are rejected and crushed. make us strong again. You made the earth shake and split wide open. Now heal its wounds and stop its trembling. You brought hard times on your people and you gave us wine that made us stagger. You gave a signal to those who worship you so they could escape from enemy arrows. answer our prayers God, use your powerful arm and give us victory. Then the people you love will be safe. Our God you solemnly promised I would gladly divide up the city of Shechem and give away Succoth Valley piece by piece. The lands of Gilead and Manasa are mine. II fryer is my war helmet and Judah is the symbol of my royal power. Moab is merely my washbasin. Edom belongs to me and I shout in triumph over the Philistines, our God, who will bring me to the fortress or lead me to eat him. Have you rejected us and deserted our enemies? Help us defeat our enemies, no one else can rescue us. You will give us victory and crush our enemies. Steve Webb 2:36 Introduction to Psalm 61 The title of this psalm is to the chief musician on a stringed instrument, a Psalm of David. We can't know from the title or the content of this psalm specifically when it was written or what prompted it's writing. Steve Webb 2:54 Psalms chapter 61. Hear My Cry, oh God, listen to my prayer. In despair and far from home, I call to you. Take me to a safe refuge for you are my protector, my strong defense against my enemies? Let me live in your sanctuary all my life. Let me find safety under your wings. You have heard my promises Oh God, and you have given me what belongs to those who honor you. Add many years to the king's life. Let him live on and on. May he rule forever in your presence. Oh God, protect him with your constant love and faithfulness. So I will always sing praises to you as I offer you daily what I have promised Steve Webb 3:39 Introduction to Psalm 62. The title of this psalm is for the Director of Music for Jonathan, a Psalm of David. Just as a reminder when we see the words for the director of music or for the chief musician, it's thought by some that this is being directed directly to the Lord Himself. Others think that it just refers to a leader of musicians or choirs during the time of David. And Jeduthun is mentioned in First Chronicles 1641 and First Chronicles 25 one through three and Judith and was one of the musicians that David appointed to lead Israel in worship. Steve Webb 4:20 Psalms chapter 62. I find my rest in God alone. He is the one who saves me. He alone is my rock. He is the one who saves me. He is like a fort to me. I will always be secure. How long will you enemies attack me? Will all of you throw me down? I'm like a leaning wall. I'm like a fence that is about to fall. You only want to pull me down from my place of honor. You take delight in telling lies. You bless me with what you say but in your hearts you call down curses on me. Say Allah. I will find my rest in God alone. He is the one who gives me hope he alone On his my rock, he is the one who saves me. He is like a fort to me, I will always be secure. I depend on God to save me and to honor me. He is my mighty rock. He is my place of safety. Trust in him at all times you people tell him of all your troubles. God is our place of safety. Sayla ordinary people are only a breath. Important people are not what they seem to be. If they were weighed on a scale, they wouldn't amount to anything. Together, they are only a breath. Don't trust in money you have taken from others. Don't be proud of things you have stolen. Even if your riches grow, don't put your trust in them. God, I have heard you say two things. One is that you God are strong. The other is that you Lord are loving. I'm sure that you will reward each person in keeping with what he has done. Steve Webb 5:58 Today's translation of chapter 62 began with the words it is surely true that I find my rest in God, which is good, but I believe that the New American Standard is a better translation. That translation says, My soul waits in silence for God only. Beloved, sometimes the very best thing we can do is come before God and just be quiet. FB Maya wrote, This is why God keeps you waiting. All that is of self and nature must be silence. One voice after another cease to boast one light after another be put out until the soul is shut up to God alone. You see, our natural inclination when we are in great need is to do something. We feel that if it is to be it is up to me. But if we have that mentality, we're not putting our faith in God. But David said, My soul waits in silence for God only from him as my salvation. He is my only rock and my salvation. Beloved, there is no better place to go for deliverance from any circumstance, any hardship, any trouble. Throughout this Psalm David expresses his complete confidence in God. I like the way Spurgeon put it. He said, observe how the psalmist brands his own initials upon every name which he rejoicing li gives to his God, my expectation, my rock, my salvation, my glory, my strength, my refuge. He is not content to know that the Lord is all these things. He acts in faith towards him, and he lays his claim to him under every character. Beloved, our confidence is well placed when we lean on him. There we can find complete and enduring rest. Well, what are your thoughts? You have comments? Tomorrow is poetry Thursday, and we're going to bring the book of Job to a conclusion with the reading of chapters 41 and 42. Movie Trailer 8:35 The story of finding yourself finding your way finding faith and just think it's gonna be so uplifting. There's comedy, there's tenderness, there's complexity, with all of the characters, the production value is incredible. It feels like we've just been dropped into a moment in history, audiences are gonna get a strong message of love and hope. I hope people feel cheerful and joyful all at the same time, and maybe inspired to rediscover their own faith. Steve Webb 9:07 Beloved, today only there's a special release of the Jesus revolution movie in theaters. So Saturday I'll be drawing three names. And one more thing after you see the movie Let me know what you thought about it, send an email to me or boostagram when Leanna and I saw the movie back in August at a early screening, it was powerful. It really, really touched me because it was almost like I was watching my own life on the screen. So I was in tears much of the time, let me know how it affected you. Steve Webb 10:23 Okay, prayer requests and praises. Lifespring family Berean brother Paul of Seattle writes, Hi, Steve, a praise. We've been back to church since the beginning of the year. And it is great. Thank you for being a part of the journey that God had us on, and he put a smiley face and signed, Paul. Well, Brother Paul, I am thrilled to hear that the two of you are back to church. I know we prayed at the beginning of the year that God would lead you to a church home. So this is a real answer to prayer. Praise the Lord. That's awesome. May God continue to bless you and your wife. And we have a prayer request from anonymous. It says, Hi, Steve, I have a relative who is a believer with a son who is not a believer who's going through a tough time based on lifelong decisions he's made. What makes it harder is grandkids are involved. Without giving too much detail. We're praying for God to give the grandpa and his new wife wisdom in the situation, and to remove the stress on the grandpa. And we're praying for God to touch the son and the grandkids with His love and bring them to him. And to put the son on a better path. It's a complicated situation. Anonymous writes with a lot of details, but God knows all that much more than me, and can work out whatever he deems best. But wouldn't it be nice if he would just let us know what he knew was best? Yeah, synonymous. It sure would be sometimes he does. And sometimes he doesn't. I guess that's why they call it faith. But knowing that God is good, that he loves these people far more than we do, we can trust him. And today, the lovely lady Liana and I spent quite a bit of time with our friends Karen and Mark at a zoo in the Palm Springs area. And Karen told me that her sister who has lung cancer, we prayed about her. Just recently, Karen told me that her sisters, doctors have told her that they're not going to do surgery to remove the cancer in her lung, but will instead do radiation. Well, the sister is disappointed that they're not going to do this surgery. So let's pray that the radiation is effective, and that she'll lean on God for peace and healing through the treatments. And also Liane has another friend that she dearly loves in this woman's family is just really going through it. They're very badly fractured. I can't go into details, but they really need God to move in the hearts of a lot of people in this situation. There's a lot of heartbreak, a lot of pride. And we think that there might even be physical or mental abuse involved. So we need to pray for them. And also, beloved, let's pray for the revivals that are breaking out around the country at Asbury University and at other schools. And also for the Jesus revolution movie. Let's pray that the Holy Spirit will touch hearts and lives and draw souls to a relationship with Jesus. Okay, let's pray. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we worship you. We worship you for who you are, because you are worthy of all of our praise. We adore you, we honor you. We bow before you, everything we have, and everything we are is from your hand. And we thank you. Bless it is your name. We thank You, Lord, for showing Paul and his wife to this new church and pray that you will use them in this community and draw them closer to you. We pray for the families of anonymous and Leanne's friend, and I'm sure there are others in the Lifespring family who are also experiencing difficulties in their families. Father, it seems as if the enemy has really increased his attacks on families in recent years. And I pray that the revival that seems to be happening around the country will just be the beginning of a worldwide return to you. And that healed relationships within families will be but one result of surrendering to you. We need you Lord, we pray that you would restore the faith of those who have abandoned it. Tear down the pride, soften their hearts, remove the scales from their eyes, do what it takes Lord, to bring them back to you. I know you love them even more than we do, Lord, so please don't give up on them. Don't leave them to their own devices, do whatever it takes Father, we trust you. And Father I pray that as the Jesus revolution movie is released today that your spirit would be in each theater and that he would speak to 1000s upon 1000s of hearts, Lord, may new souls be brought into your kingdom. And if it's your will Lord use this film to spread the revival to places that we could not even imagine, to touch people that would never before have considered having relationship with you. What a glorious thing it would be to see the Holy Spirit's work in 1000s, in millions of lives around the world, Lord, Father, we pray for a revival and we pray that you will begin with each one of us. Make us sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in a way that we have never been before. Give us a yearning to follow you and to be used by you. Give us a boldness to speak your name and to share your message of hope, love in good news to the people you bring into our path. Take away Lord, any timidness we might have, and replace it with a compassion to share the only message that will save them from hell. We know that Jesus is the only way so give us the conviction to share the message with love. And as I said, compassion. Bless the Lifespring family, Lord, you know each need, I pray that your will would be done in each life. And we pray these things now in Jesus name. Amen. Beloved, our next time a prayer will be this coming Sunday.
